the Hearn family, but we can absolutely say it's been the best.It is a liberating thing, to be in the center
of God's will. Rebecca and I often lie
in bed at night and review how busy and draining our days have been. Then we tell each other how we wouldn't
change it for the world.

about three-quarters of everything we owned, and stuffing the rest into a
container for the trip over the Atlantic. We had no idea where we would be living in a months' time, hardly knew
any Spanish, didn't have enough financial support raised to live from, and had
one person signed up for the school--but knew that what we were about to
pioneer was our calling and passion. We
also knew it was going to be an amazing test for our family. We had no idea.

ahead 11 months: We live in a beautiful
Spanish village, have friends in the community, know Spanish enough to talk to
the locals on the street (but still need to learn more!), our kids are in
Spanish school and flourishing, and we have had 8 graduates and admitted over
20 interns for the Winter 2010 term!

I am directing the G42 Leadership Academy (www.g42leadershipacademy.org)
here in Mijas, in the very southern tip of Spain. I split my time teaching, leading, and doing
the back office work for the Academy. Just recently for example, I led a team of interns to Barcelona to do some work for
an inner-city ministry called "El Lokal." They have a great concept of "church"-they are a youth
center/school/church that is reaching out to the youth of this city. El Lokal is just one of the examples of
ministries we are networking with to provide opportunities for our trainees to
serve, learn, and lead.

Rebecca is thriving. She has started teaching English to
neighborhood kids, so besides earning a little bit of money for Christmas, it allows
her to befriend parents in the neighborhood. She also has really developed her passion for encouragement and is a
huge blessing the families of this town. She is also spending time with the girl interns: their meetings are a
mix of discussing "What is God saying to you?" plus knitting, chatting, and
shedding a few tears watching "Little Women." She loves it.

The kids are also doing great-the girls are
in the top of their classes in the local Spanish school, really enjoy school
and have a lot of friends. Both of them are well
on their way to being fluent, and correct us all the time. Gabriella is
quite appalled at our accent! They bring a very different atmosphere
to the center, and they love being with the interns and bring a lot of
excitement. Benjamin
is-finally!-beginning to talk and is always bringing joy to us and the staff
and interns at the Leadership Academy.

We can't thank you
enough for your support and encouragement this past year. Your help with our vision to train and disciple
leaders has enabled us to pioneer something we believe is earth-changing. We are developing adults who have strong
passions and callings into leaders who are ready to "Say Amen and Make a Plan"
and then go to some rough places to establish churches, ministries, and
businesses to have a positive impact on the world. Already our graduates have started a home
church, are leading and discipling teams of young adults (and replicating
themselves!) on world-wide missions trips, and are building a ministry to
prostitutes in the Costa del Sol. We are expecting some exciting new ventures this
next year from our current interns, not only in church planting and ministries,
but practical businesses like a honey farm, a bed and breakfast, and a church-caf.
Spend a few days here and you can't help but get excited about the
future. We are just grateful to be a part.

I know... finally a new blog. And in fact, this one is from
Emma. Trust me, she wrote the entire thing herself and even asked me
the interview questions at the end. I will be in touch soon... Until
then, here's Emma! //Dave

Spain!G42!

Hey Americans! This is Emma the daughter of David Hearn. Spain is
beautiful, Its looks old but beautiful old. There is so small
sidewalks,(They look cool but if there's a fat lady there when your
trying to go past, You have GOT to go on the road) and Its A little
bit hard when there's a car and your trying to walk on the sidewalk.
Anyway, I'ts old fashioned and its beautiful. I'm a good singer so when
you're here if your lucky, Ill make a song for you. And I own a candy
shop at the place for students like.......... Lolipops for 10 cents and
candy bars for 50 cents, Sodas for 50 cents, Resses cups for 10 cents,
packs of gum for 50 cents, Etc,etc sometimes we have a party like 1
time we had a surprise party for 2! One person thought It was a
surprise for the other person and that person thought It was a surprise
for That person. So It was a surprise for both of them! And of the
starting of the class we have a special dinner and for the graduation
we have a special dinner. The students take turns cooking, and
cleaning, For a whole week. Oh and I have a massage and spa thing I do.
Its awesome here Its like boarding school but better It has dorms and
you stay all day and all night. Some nights we have game night where we
play games. I have 1 sister and 1 brother ( I think you will think my
brother is cute) And sometimes we have movie nights where we watch
movies. There is all kinds of events! And we have a library where you
can get books and keep them for as long as you want (but you have to
return them before you leave) (By the way your house is like a
beautiful princess house I am so jealous of it) And you do bible
classes of course. And we are also looking for a few more students. And
you have a grocery store so close to you Its like a 10 sec drive. And
you can get tattoos (My sister does that). There is a beach here and a
wonderful view some days you can see Africa from the view. And you can
have a trip around the town on a donkey for 10 euros Have a trip around
the town on a cart that the donkey pulls for 15 euros Or a longer trip
around the town on a bigger cart that's been pulled by a horse for 20
euros. Hope you like it, Oh I'm not done. Well, My house is close to
yours its like a 40 sec drive. This is my interview with Dave...............

What is g42?
G42 is a network of people, Who want to plant churches and ministries
who want to spread the kingdom of god around the world. And develop
leaders passionate leaders to spread the message.

What are we doing?
Of course we are doing G42 academy, but also we are growing our networks with ministries of our graduates.

What is coming up on G42?
Our next term starts October sixth. We are also accepting applications for our January term.

How many students are their going to be on October 6th?
On October 6th we have 6 students. But we're hoping for more.

Ok! I'm done! Hope you come soon!
Emma

It's the Little Things

So we have had a busy few months with some
ups and downs, pretty much the life of any family!

Ben seriously burnt his feet, but now four
weeks later, he can do everything he did before, but he will not go without
socks and shoes, the new skin is still very tender and crumbs and debris on
the floor seem to hurt. But he is wonderful and brings joy wherever he
goes.

Em has been going through a rough patch. For
some reason whenever she would wear trousers or shorts she would just be so
uncomfortable to the point of sheer frustration. Her toes touching would
be so uncomfortable, that she would be in tears asking us why God was doing
this and not helping. It is such an oddity to Dave and I, so we have been
praying and really just asking God for wisdom. We have also had to
change our parenting, it's sort of humbling when you have to re-evaluate because
what you are doing is not working. But we have seen that in Emma, that
her drive to be perfect' and to please was too overwhelming, she would feel
guilty to the point of condemnation and feel worthless. This is no way to
live. So we have talked with her about the truth of who God says
she is, the truth that we all mess up daily but we walk in forgiveness and that
God see's us as perfect through Christ. I think she is getting it, and I
have seen a big difference the past few weeks. I think the toe' thing
bought all this to light. Better a month or so of oddities, than a life
of never feeling good enough. She is amazing, she is beyond smart and
constantly writes songs, poems, and has a new business venture weekly. We
have stamped on Satan and his lies and she is starting to realize the truth of
who she is.

Gabriella is still our artistic one, the
irony being that she has become the "easy child!"....she never stops asking
questions, and cannot be fobbed off with nonsense. She is still my right
hand when it comes to Ben. She bought her first chapter book this
week and read it....so it was a big proud moment for her.

The school is doing really well. We
have nine interns this semester, five of them graduate in a month, and so have
had to "make a plan and say "amen" ... our married couple are going to go and
plant a church in Georgia, one is starting a college campus community, another
is going to start a ministry to teenage girls and show real relationships and
godly lifestyles. We have others going to teach in Eastern Europe with a desire
to bring life and light to the atrocity of genocide,......This is a group that will
enact change and refuse to let the status quo take control. The momentum
is growing and we continue to be amazed at the caliber of young adults wanting
to come to the leadership academy.

The visiting teachers, Ted Hanson, John
Marsden, and Hermann Haan....have made the interns heads spin and
spirits soar. It is fantastic, anointed, academic, it is about
seeing the offices of "pastor" "teacher" "prophet".....it is about letting them
see it all and watching as a switch in them is turned on.

We have had a few visitors too, who seem not
to notice the plumbing issues ( still can't flush toilet paper!) etc etc, but
they see church', they see a bunch of people, just having fun and living life
to the full and living to encourage each other and to worship God.

If you want to visist you are more than
welcome!

ut back to my title...it's the little
things..... We walk to to the town square on a regular basis, and there
always seem to be boys about Bens age on cool
scooter/motorbikes. Ben just points and looks longingly. It is so
heart-wrenching. The scooters in the stores are about $60 and up....so we
decided to go to the flea market and before we left I ask the Lord for the
exact same scooter Ben sees in the square...........(see below!)

So after years of being told that "God
cares" I am finally beginning to believe that He truly does...He cares
about the big and the small. I am finally believing that He does want us
to be blessed and happy.....( That is my next blog...."destiny, happiness, and
guilt"). Whether it's healing feet, touching body parts or finding plastic
toys, God is a big God who desires to show love in so many ways.

So that is to catch you all up a bit, and
hopefully you are getting the blogs we post on facebook, and our adventures in
missions page. If not let us know. Thanks for everything!
LIFE IS GREAT :o)

And the War Rages On... (part 2)

It seemed just as Ben's feet were healing, we were hit with yet another spritual battle.

Emma has developed a bit of a frustration with her feet and
clothing. Pants and shorts are a big no-no. Even underwear is a
struggle some days. Bathing suit bottoms, for some reason, are too
tight and restrictive, so we've gone to the pool in underwear. A then
there's her feet. She doesn't want her toes "touching", and goes to
great length to keep them separated. This means that most shoes won't
work. Another interesting thing is that this frustration will go
unnoticed one day, but the next, causes temper tantrums and tears.

Emma....!

Now, remember, Emma is our super-smart one, but also
super-sensitive. She is generous and thoughtful, and routinely gives
her allowance to others, tithes, but yet can also save for the future.
She is business minded, and daily thinks of a new business or idea.
She is creative, writes short stories and songs almost every day-the
girl is truly amazing and blessed with smarts and beauty.

That's why it is so hard for us when some days she is completely not
herself, shouting "I hate my feet!", "Why would God make my feet
icky!?!?", etc...

On one hand, maybe this is normal. She is growing, (only 7 years
old but still growing fast), she's gone through wierd phases before,
and we know this will pass. And when we read reports of
"hyper-sensitive" kids on the net, Rebecca and I wonder what kids in
the 1860's did, or orphans who have little to eat-did they worry about
how their feet felt, or how their pants frustrated them?

But on the other hand, when we hear her crying about how she is mad
at God for her feet and see how much her demeanor changes, we realize
that this could be another spiritual attack on the fabric' of our
family. We've prayed for her, had the students and other teachers pray
for her, replacing her shouts of frustration with shouts of blessing
and health. It just seems we've been under constant attack &
stress since we've been here in Spain, in one way or another. (BUT-
we've had times of feeling we're at our best, and we're right where God
wants us too-we know that what we are doing has eternal signifigance!)

Please, keep us in your thoughts and prayers...don't get me wrong, I'm
not trying to over-spiritualize everything or make you think that our
family is falling apart. Overall, we are doing well, and using all of
these things to grow as a family ( like explaining to Emma how every
body part is important, and each has it's own job, just like Christians
in the "body" of Christ)

And the War Rages On...

Sorry I haven't blogged in a month!... I've finally been able
to have some time in the office. You can check out the latest blogs
from the interns at the Leadership Academy at http://blog.g42globlal.org . Today, I just want to share with you some of the battles we've been going through.

I'm sure you've heard by now, but good ol' Ben hurt himself a couple
of weeks ago. He stepped on a metal plate in the back yard that had
been in direct sunlight all day. It was as hot as a frying pan and
gave him severe 2nd degree burns on the soles of both feet. We got him
to the hospital immediately-which began a week-long saga where Rebecca
and Ben were stuck in a dark, dingy hospital room, didn't completely
understand the nurses, and Ben had to go through daily (excruciating)
treatment for his burns. Meanwhile, I was home with the girls and
tried to juggle housework and kids. [sidenote: Bec, I don't know how you do it! Again, I love you and think you are a superhero.]

Hamming it up from his hospital cage--I mean, crib.

Yes, this is where Rebecca slept, and yes, they are SHARING a blanket.

It was an intense time... we contacted as many people as we could to
pray for Ben, especially when the doctors thought they might have to do
a skin graft. We were scared-Ben was in intense pain, and basically
trapped in this hospital for an indeterminate amount of time. We
turned to YOU, to our friends and family, who encouraged us
tremendously and prayed for us, no matter where you were in the world.
And we believe we got a little miracle...

Their home away from home

Ben didn't need a skin graft. After the first scare was over and
some pain medication kicked in, he was back to his own happy self,
smiling and "brrrrrm- brrrrrrm"ing his cars over everything. We were
allowed to leave the burn unit and continue his treatment at home after
a week in the hospital. Thank you Elizabeth, a nurse in the local
church, who volunteered to keep an eye on Ben and help us with the
bandages! Being allowed to leave the hospital was a miracle in
itself-doctors and other parents on the ward had told us to be ready
for a long stay, and none of the other children in the burn ward while
we were there had left earlier than three weeks-with various degrees of
burns.

But Ben is now home and life is getting back to normal. We see this
whole ordeal as yet another "trial by fire" for Ben and our family.
These setbacks just don't affect one or two of our family members, but
the whole family.  Each link in the family is stressed: Bec and myself;
Me and the girls (it seems I'm now the meanie' of the family), the
girls with each other... this is where the real attack comes, against the
family as a whole.

Hamming it up at home (taken before the burn)

But through it all, we stand together, knowing this is all for a
Greater Purpose, and we are committed to working and growing through
these speed bumps. We know that Ben will have a tremendous testimony
and "Walk" in the future...

In part 2, I'll seek your help for the next battle in the war. Stay tuned.

Sights, Sounds, and Smells of Morocco

I took a team of the interns to Morocco last week after they
completed their first term at the G42 Leadership Academy. Our primary
mission was to make contact with some new friends that are living and
working inside Morocco to bring peace, hope, and love to this nation
caught between Islam and the West.

In one of the medinas -

Morocco is interesting in that it sits on the Straight of Gibraltar,
just an hour-long ferry ride from Spain and Europe. Because of that it
is one of the more progressive Muslim nations, trying to hold on to
the rituals and rules of Islam while at the same time, embracing and
befriending the West. I was struck by the true Clash of
Civilizations going on in this nation. On one hand, it is truly an
Islamic nation, with tight controls on behavior, dress, and religious
practice. On the other, the younger generations listen to American pop
music, dress in trendy European styles, and enjoy practicing their
English. And here we were, American (i.e. Christian) tourists who were
continually the object of attention for most locals.

On the trek near Moulay Idriss

Since our goal was to make contact with as many future partners as
possible, we traveled around quite a bit. We were based in Meknes,
which was a medium-sized city that was central to many of the places we
wanted to travel. So we did, by taxi (7 people jammed in one taxi for
2 hours"fun!) and train, and by foot. We got to trek into villages and
speak to locals with a mix of Spanish, French, and Arabic; we got to
wander in old medinas full of colors (and smells :^P ); and we got to
visit and play with orphans at the Village of Hope orphanage in Ain
Leuh, Morocco.

The Village of Hope isnt really an orphanage, its more of a
childrens home. And it was nothing like we expected"it wasnt rows
upon rows of dirty beds, bored children, and dusty grounds. It was an
oasis of family, community, life, and love!

A bit of background"in a Muslim society, sex out of marriage simply
doesnt happen. If somehow a girl does get pregnant, she is shuttled
off to the city to have an abortion or off to the country to have her
baby, leave it at an orphanage, and then return to her life. In fact,
we were told that Muslims believe that orphans are born without a soul,
therefore it is okay to kill them. So orphans in Morocco really dont
have a chance to ever re-integrate into Moroccan society. BUT, at the
Village of Hope, each orphan is actually adopted by a family that
commits to raising that child as their own until they are 18 years
old. There are currently 4-5 families with 8-10 children (natural
and adopted) each that live at Village of Hope. They live in
community, and their children attend school on the grounds, provided by
Moroccan teachers, in Arabic. The parents come from South Africa,
Holland, America, the UK, and around the world. So these kids get to
grow up learning multiple languages, in a family that loves and cares
for them. Its an amazing concept!

And the Village of Hope reaches out to the community as well:
children from local villages attend the school, they are currently
building a clinic that will not only care for the families on-site, but
will care for villages as well, and they bring in local tradesmen and
farmers to teach the children to be workers and leaders. They are
truly building a generation of Moroccans who will re-enter society, no
longer stigmatized, but who will be a light to their fellow citizens!

That is just one place that interns and graduates may be involved in
the future I will try and write more soon. Just as an update, the
June term starts Monday 15 June, with four new students in addition to
the five already attending. We are growing quickly and we are hopign
to move into a larger, more modern facility by September! Please be in
prayer that a property opens up that will be perfect for us. Other than
ongoing classes, this is my highest priority right now, to find a place
that will have the sleeping capacity, classroom space, and a large
kitchen to accomodate all of the students we are planning on having.

Thank you to everyone who is following us and praying for us on
this journey. and thanks to Michelle for letting me use her photos!

Hearn Ministry Update - May 09

Hello again from the Hearn family.

It's now May, our 5th
month in Spain, and already we're realizing that we're exactly where
God wants us to be. Although we're really just starting, you can see
that He has paved the path for us, and we're already seeing fruit in
the lives around us.

We started our first term of the G42 Leadership Academy on the 2nd
of March, with a class of six interns. We are blessed to have this
group, as they already realize the authority, boldness, and power that
God has given them. They've been challenged by teachers and their
world is getting rocked with the responsibility that we're sharing with
them-to bring light to the dark places of the world, and bring the hope
of Christ to a desperate people. A typical day at the academy starts
at 9.30am with a two hour class, right now the subject being covered is
"Covenant"-what covenants are, what they mean and how do you walk in
covenant today? All good stuff. We just had two
excellent guest teachers, Jon Marsden teaching on the pastoral side of
ministry and Ted Hanson teaching about the prophetic, and activating it
within the interns. They were blown away and totally challenged by
both. This is not milk they are being fed, but hard core steak! The
interns then break for lunch and have class again from 2-4:30. After
class, a different team each week makes dinner and we all eat together
and hang out and chill at the kitchen table'.

Student life.

In this first class alone, we have
pastors, evangelists, teachers, and other tremendous gifts. We are
enjoying living in community, and having them in our apartment for some
fun times and good food. It is a wonderful thing that we live between
the school and the village store, so we are forever having "pop-ins"
and we get to just drink and hang with all the interns on a more
one-to-one basis. We also have some brilliant game nights where your
stomach hurts from laughing so much. These are top-notch people
devoted to the call of God on their lives; there is no mediocrity in
them at all. We just love being with them. And of course, they also
get to enjoy the beautiful countryside, the beach, and traveling on the
weekends.

Family life.

A normal day for Bec is dropping the girls off at school, hanging with Ben at home or having coffee with the school mum's (it IS
a hard "ministry", but someone has to do it), picking the girls up at
2.00pm and chilling at home for a few hours, or having the girls'
friends over. Then off to Villa Los Grillos (the name of the school
villa) to eat and hang with the interns until about 7.30pm. Meanwhile
during the day, Dave has been the school shuttle driver, accountant,
administrator, web master and graphic designer etc...He has
had the opportunity to sit in on a few classes, but most of the time,
he is just too busy. He has taught a few classes on leadership, and is
in the middle of planning the interns' practicum in Morocco, where he
will go with them for a week and put into practice the last three
months of studies. This will be exciting to see God move in this Muslim
country. Bec will also be teaching a class here soon based on the book
by Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton, "Supernatural Ways of Royalty."
We eat with the interns four nights a week and have three evenings with
just our family.

Emma is still full
of ideas, and she fills notebook after notebook with lists, business
ventures, party plans, game ideas, and yet another role she would like
to fill as she grows up. She is enormously generous and recently tried
to spend all of her savings on a cake for Rebecca for Mother's Day.
Gabriella has definitely blossomed in Spain-she actually enjoys school,
and is showing a creative streak that amazes both of us. She is so
helpful and kind to little Benjamin, a mommy-in-training for sure.
Benjamin has also grown into his own, after many trials and errors'
learning to walk, he is now running around the house looking for the
most expensive and dangerous items to pull off of shelves.

All of the
children love spending time at the Villa with the interns, and have
taken over the role of school mascots... but the interns love them and
have fun chasing them around the house. What a wonderful thing to be
brought up with that environment as part of your life.

It is an amazing life,
and we are blown away that we get to live it. There is something to
be said about being absolute sure you are where you are supposed to
be. It has been a long time coming, but we know without a doubt this
is the right time the right place and the right vision. Our family
itself couldn't be in a greater position-after a (miraculously) smooth
transition, we are enjoying our time and our life. It seemed like the
first few months we were adjusting to all of the new bugs and viruses
of Spain, but now everyone is healthy and the sun is finally shining on
the Costa del Sol!

Thank you for joining
us on this adventure, thank you for your generous support and prayers.
We love hearing from you and hope you keep in touch!

being a mommy

So I have been a bit frustrated lately. I have felt like I am not involved with the interns as much as I would like, and this has in turn made me feel like my own kids were being a hassle. I was not enjoying them at all, more just getting through the day. It has been a very unfulfilling time really, not being a great presence up at the school or being a good mom.

So although my natural inclination is to want to hang with the students, and get involved in their lives, I have realised that right now, my first priority is my own three "students". During the next 50 years or so, I will have the opportunity to be a part and input into thousands of students, but I will only have three, young , trainable, impressionable, lovely kids for so long.

I am called to raise up these three so that they in turn will reach a generation.......

So I am embarking on going back to being the mommy, who has time to bake with them, play games and puzzles with them and be there to hear Emma as she tells me EVERYTHING that she did today :o)

Don't get me wrong, the interns are still a very big part of our lives, we eat with them four times a week, they come and hang out at our apartment, but instead of trying to do too many things and doing them not well, I will do what I am supposed to do and raise these guys up, to the best of my ability.

The school is doing really well. The interns are on information overload. This next week or so they are also getting practical with what they have been taught, and what their giftings are.

Since Dave hasn't 'briefed' them on what the specifics are, I will wait till next week to tell you! But these are a fantastic bunch, in your face, real, sold out, unafraid.....dynamic, charismatic....it's cool to watch as they can go from a time of worship and prayer to having salsa dancing lessons from the Brazilians in our shared 'villa'. Life to the full.

Ben was supposed to have a CAT scan amd MRI this week to make sure that everything is right, and that the slowness in crawling ,pulling up and catching himself is just a milestone he hasn't reached yet. The hospital haven't called us. But as I wait, I just keep reading the gospels and Jesus healed everyone, all different ways. Telling them " you will get what you believe". So I a little caught between 'faith and works'and having these tests, or just plain believing God to take care of Ben until everything in his little body works together. If any of you have any godly wisdom on this........... This boy is so wonderful. You can see in his eyes, the sweetness and thoughtfulness.

Gabriella got over her rash and tonsilitis, she still has some strange bumps all over her tongue, but she is doing just fine. Her artistic talents are coming out moreand more, and she is attempting to draw, paint all the Mr. Men and stick them on her door. she loves the empty toilet roll tubes, and picking up random junk off the street. In her mind it is all so useful and can be made into something.

Emma is full steam planning her birthday party. She wants a knight and castle theme, so that she can be a princess, but the boys can come and have fun too. ( she came up with this herself). She has her nose in a book most of the time. Punishment is me putting her to bed and not allowing her to read. She reads her bible more than me, I think, and will come out with an apt story all the time.

Dave is working hard on the school, and getting the practicals ready. Building blog sites, being the accountant, teaching, gardening, making the schedules etc etc....He is very busy , but loving every minute of it. He also gets to watch Manchester united at the local with the guys, and has a chance to relax and chat with them.

Still chilly, if you can believe it. In fact plain cold today and rainy.....back to the saga ofthe wet laundry ;O) BUT life is good, and it is exciting to think about the future here and the affect we are and will have. What a glorious opportunity.

talk again soon, Bec x

I remembered, It's Wednesday....Miercoles

The irony of remembering to blog since it is Wednesday, is that I have absolutely nothing to blog about!!!!

Our container has arrived, it has cleared customs (thank you God), but is now stuck in Cadiz because the dock workers or some workers are on strike!!!! But I figure we have waited over three months what's another few days? Although, I have to say that I am looking forward to mashing potatoes etc with a masher and not having to use a cheap fork, that bends each time i try to mash. Having something else to wear too, will be a really good thing. I have never worn the same outfits so many times. It's going to be like Christmas.

Gabriella came home yesterday with a swollen neck and a rash all over her body. By this morning her fever was gone but she had spots allover her face. And now they have moved to her arms. It's the craziest thing,as she feels just fine. It has motivated me to take Ben and get him caught up with his shots. We are 4months behind and one of them is MMR. So I am going to go back to the Drs tomorrow and see what they say. I went today to try and ask if the vaccinations were free. I thought my Spanish was really good, but the receptionist told me to come back tomorrow and speak with the other lady that speak English.( so much for all that practicing in my head!)

Emma wrote a note to the school principal today, asking of she could set up a booth in the playground, and sell stuff during recreo (playtime)....she will one day be on Fortune 500 front cover.

The other night she told Dave and I that she had "prayed for7 minutes", asking God to make her favourite stuffed dog, come to life. She asked us what we thought. So as good parents we said that "Hubble" was a stuffed toy and that it wasn't going to happen. With tears in her eyes she told us, " but anything is possible with God".......what could we say? I told her that God can do anything HE wants to , but he might also know that I couldn't handle a real dog in this tiny place.....Such faith, man I need some of that.

I really want to begin seeing God move and do something. I need to be a part of something that is supernatural. People set free, kids healed. I want to stop talking about it,and stop hearing about it, I want to see it and do it.

I want to hear the Holy Spirit more and know when to speak up and when to stay silent. When to be bold and when to stay back.

Patience has never been my strong point, but I am torn between 'everything in it's time' and feeling like I am letting God down by not doing more. Its hard to explain in writing, but i just don;t want to be living this great life, but have no eternal affect.......

Maybe next week I will have something to blog about!!! or at least upload photos of all my favourite things that should be arriving, and the memories to go with them. ( lots of junkin'day memories)...

vive Espana

Bec

P.S. A photo of some of the interns preparing their meals, and a nice group pic!

a little late....

I realise that I am very late with this email, but right now is the first time in weeks that I find myself sitting down with no children around. It has been a wonderful few weeks. All the interns have arrived and totally settled in.

The first week I had the responsibility to make the menu and buy the food and cook for them all, the second week,my mom and Bernadette did it, and this week we hand it over to Team A.

Half of the guys have the responsibility of making the menu and cooking, and the other half are responsible for clean up and dish washing. Next week they swap tasks. We do this this for so many reasons ( one being, cooking is my least favourite 'mom job'!) but it teaches everyone how to work to a budget, once the money is gone,it's gone. Everyone learns how to make healthy food with good nutriton and not buy pre-packaged, chemical laced stodge. It teaches servanthood and serving one another, and team building..... One day some of these guys will have dozensof orphans to feed on very limited budgets and few appliances. It's good practice.

This week is about servanthood, and so today we have been cleaning out sheds and garages, and making "Villa Los Grillos" (the house) a better place. We have found tables with no top but ornately carved legs which we will make a mosaic top for ( Hannah's creativity), we found chairs that we are going to re-upholstery in the next week or so, and tables that need some TLC and wood glue and will again look fantastic. G42 is about so many things, and classes on the kingdom etc, but we are also about leaving things better than you found them. And using the gifts God has given. There were definitely some creativity gifts manifesting today. It's so good seeing something dilapidated and nasty become beautiful and useful.....(hmmmm sounds like a good sermon to me!!!!).

I have to admit that I snagged two chairs and headboards much to Dave's shagrin, but I just couldn't let them go on the trash pile. While I was in Germany and Colorado I did the same thing. I would fix them up and sell them on craiglist.....I would love to have a little business here one day. For now they are going to have to go in our landlords 'cave' until my tools arrive.

The girls are doing so well and have made lot of friends. Emma started football (soccer) last week. Here in Spain, it's totally free. In fact there is a coach that comes to the village and takes them to the fields. She was a little peeved after her first lesson as she thought she would just get to go and kick a ball around, but it was all drills and technique. But the Spanish are serious about their football.

Next week I am going to try and sign them up for a pottery class or music class in the village, which they charge some ridiculously low price for all the classes. Gabriella wants to learn how to play the guitar, so I am determined to help her, she could be our next generation worshipper.

It is amazing the things that are offered to children here. There really does seem to be a great fondness for the younger ones. It's lovely. Old people will rub the girls head and smile at them, and caress Ben's cheeks.

That's it for now, Life is good, in fact life is great! I am amazed that I am in such a position and place, and am so truly thankful for those of you making it possible.

Pray for our "stuff", apparently it is in the port of Cadiz, and we need to get it without having to pay hundreds or thousands of dollars in import tax, fake fees etc. We need an ethical import agent who just lets have it without any problems.

I'll so try and be better keeping you up to date. (oh and keep praying for Ben's muscles in his arms and chest so that he doesn't bang his head when falls. The guys here have been praying and yesterday was one of the first times, Ben fell on the patio and didn't crack his forehead......this is really a great little miracle)

And They're Off!

It's been a long time since our last blog--I know we were promising
a weekly blog from Rebecca and myself--but we've been in a whirlwind of
activity for the past 2 weeks.

Needless to say, the G42 Leadership Academy is amazing--I think it's
safe to say that the students (or interns?), the staff, and everyone
involved is having a great time. Rebecca and I are having a blast--it
seems that almost every night we've had someone over at our apartment,
eating, playing games, enjoying each other's company, and really being
"Church." That, for our family, is the best. But we've also seen some
great times as a large group, feasting on excellent food prepared by
Rebecca, Mo, and Bernadette. Of course, Emma and Gabriella are loving
life--tons of young people who will keep them entertained by soccer,
thumb wars, collecting flowers, and painting toenails.

The classes are going great. We are starting with six students this
term (another six or more start in June) and it's a perfect start for
us. It allows for one-on-one time, lets students slowly get into the
flow, and helps me keep up with the day-to-day running of this place.
I can only imagine when we have 20 or more--it will be a madhouse! But
a good challenge to have, don't you think?! A leadership academy full
to the rafters with young adults who are on fire for Christ and ready
to change the world, bring light to the darkness, and heal broken
situations around the world...BRING IT ON!

We are just getting started!

I
really feel like we're on to something here. This isn't a sprint, but
the start of a marathon... there is a real feeling in the air that
these first interns are just a tiny indication of what's to come. We
already are starting to think of larger venues, better ways to handle
more students, better accomodations... because we know that what we are
doing is something that is not only necessary for the leaders of
tomorrow, but it's something that they are already crying out for. In
the next three months, I will share with you some of our students, and
what dreams have been placed in their hearts--amazing stuff and I know
it will knock your socks off!

A Multi-Generational Generation, and a Multi-National Nation!

It's my turn now... I think I'll do my blogs on Saturday, hopefully will do more when I get a chance. //Dave

I've spent the last week installing the kitchen, putting together
IKEA cabinets, and feverishly putting together the last minute details
for the students staying at Villa Los Grillos. (with the help of
Rebecca and some of our friends here, of course.) A nice thing about
Spain are the coffee breaks: the ladies set out an amazing spread of
coffee, hot chocolate, steaming milk, cakes, bread, butter; all work
stops; and then we sit down to enjoy. But the amazing thing about
Villa Los Grillos is that it is truly international-around the table
people are talking English, Spanish, Portugese, and even Swedish. At
one point, someone noted that around the table, we had 9 different
nationalities: American, Brazilian, Argentinian, Chilean, Peruvian,
Angolan, Swedish, British (from England and Gibraltar), and Nigerian!

We've
often talked about the 42nd generation being a "multi-generational"
generation: we want to bring together youth, young adults, families,
and "boomers," anyone who wants to spread the Message of God's love and
grace to the 4 corners of the world. But we forget about how this
growing community of believers will bring together a Multi-national
Nation! As the kingdom spreads, we are going to bring together people
of different colors, backgrounds, languages, and nations-all brothers
and sisters, part of a large family. And the one thing that binds us
is the willingness to open up to each other, share our burdens, and
proclaim the victory and salvation of Jesus Christ! The base that we
are starting here in Spain is already showing the fruit of community,
of love, and of friendship-people being real and allowing God to work
in our lives.

"You will be for Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation", Exodus 19:6

Thanks for keeping up with us on this journey. Pray not only for
our family, but for our ministry here. That we will be able to develop
and teach leaders, and that we will be able to impact Spain and the
Costa del Sol for the glory of God.

When did it become about money??

So here is my first "Wednesday blog". I am going to get some order and structure into my blog-life, so Wednesday's is the day for the updates, thoughts, rants and raves......

Today,I was just in the kitchen ( side-note: I am seriously asking God to take a smell out ofthe kitchen, it has some funky mouldy, damp smell going on and I have scrubbed allknown surfaces with bleach and it's still there...I don't enjoy being there, so I amawaiting a little smell-miracle :o). Anyway, I was thinking about a preacher/pastor web site my brother had told me to look at, and I was just so "uuughhhhhh" by the whole thing. Obvioulsy, this man has a very 'sucessful', i.e BIG church, I get the impression he has some sort of prophetic gift, and there in the top tight hand corner is some flash rolling graphics saying that I can sign up to recieve "e-coaching' from this "soul physician" for only $100/month ( for a min of 3months!).... COME ON! Are you serious, like he's not making enoughmoney fromhis books, his prayer-lines, his appearances on TBN etc etc,now 2 emails from him a month will cost you $100. RIDICULOUS.

If a man wants to be a life-coach ,phycologist and charge outrageous fees , then all power to him, but I have a problemwith doing that under the guise of a pastor, preacher, man of God.

The money aspect makes me sick. There are women of 26 years of age, dying of AIDs, begging the world racers to take their babies so that they could have some sort of life, and this guy wants to send you a happy/clappy pick-me-up email every two weeks. PATHETIC.

If the 'church' would stop spending millions of dollars on buildings, programs, and cars etc.... we could change the world and a lot of the economic problems.

With the couple million dollars most churches will spend on their facilities, we could build up the nation of Swaziland, we could raise up a generation of healthy, productive, godly young kids and revolutionize an entire nation. If Swaziland is saved, how much more would the rest of Africa look and see. How much more then is God lifted up and HIS grace seen??

Simplicity is what I am about. How do I affect changein Mijas Pueblo? How do I bring people of Mijas to see God, to know God and to live life to the full?

Matthew 5 says.....that we are salt and light etc etc..we've all heard that ,and then he says that we are to Shine!...(How)... "Keep an open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you'll prompt people to open up with God, this generous father in heaven."

Pretty simple really, I have coffee-mornings for the moms, We have big dinners for everyone at night, we live our lives in full view of everyone. And have a house, that people can just pop-in for a cup of tea....... It's just not that hard. (The hard part is making sure that our full-monty life is a reflection of God!).

It's not about money, it's about being fullfilled, it's about living life with joy, it's about giving your life, and it's about having a good laugh. And it's about being who God made you to be, and being content (Matt 5: "you're blessed when you're content with just who you are--nomore,no less. That's the momment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought." !!!!

Oh and before I forget, the update!-------- This week we (Ben, Gbariella and myself) had the worst stomach bug ever to roam the earth, but we are well now. Emmahas started to correct our Spanish, which is cool and means that she is toatlly getting the hang of it. She also told oneof her friends at school that she couldn't be friends with her if she didn't belive in Jesus. ( We had a discusision about that's WHO we are friends with......I think she got it, and they are back playing tag). Ben slept through the night!! I was too sick to get up, so after two nigts of screaming he now sleeps through. (Why did it take me three kids and years of non-sleep to figure that out?).

The school is getting ready, Dave just spent the week scraping and painting the ceilings and building the IKEA kitchen. I start sewing curtains etc this weekend for our students to arrive next week.

The sun has come out, the birds are singing, I just need my shower to have hot water and we are sweet sailing!

Tonight, I have a Nigerian student coming to teach me how to make spicey, curry chicken so I can make it for our students....mmmmmmmmmm

Oh and before I forget. If you would like to recieve THREE personal emails from me each month, please find the support me button and for a small 'donation', I will tell you how wonderful you are !!!! :o))))))

j/k I'll tell you guys anyway. You are all amazing, and the fact that you are helping us and seriously supporting us to get this 'thing' up and running is beyond words.

Dave will have to add soemcool photos when he gets home, I don't know how to do it !

The Advance Team Hits the Beach

Again, sorry for all of the military symbolism, but that's what The
Hearn Family is doing. Rebecca, Emma, Gabriella, Ben and I have finally
made the jump from America (Phoenix was our last stop) to Spain. We've
been here two weeks and there is finally a lull in the action that I
can write you again. We are the scouts' going ahead to make the way
for the G42 Leadership Academy.

First of all, thank you for all of your prayers and financial support. It seems that at
every step we've taken, God has granted us favor, allowing us to bypass
the nonsense and get down to business quickly. It really is amazing how
much we've been able to accomplish in two and a half weeks-Juanito
Jonsson, the local pastor, has expressed to us that getting all of it
done this quickly is unheard of in Spain!

Thanks for the prayers for the girls as they started school,
although we had tears (and I'm sure there will be more), it was very
smooth and the girls are actually enjoying themselves. I have to give
them credit-they are being very brave in an alien environment-thank God
there are some other English-speaking kids to give them a little help!

So, besides getting kids enrolled in Spanish school, getting
residency visas, locating an apartment, and finding our way around
town, we are setting up the Leadership Academy-a training center and
base for leaders and radical Christ-followers to learn about Kingdom
planting-whether in church or business , stepping out in faith and
authority, and leadership. The first students have been accepted for
the March term, and we are moving forward! They will begin to arrive
the last week in February, so please mark your calendars to pray with
us as they travel here and begin classes, acting as our "guinea pigs"
for future terms! Students are already submitting applications for the
term starting in June, so if you are interested in joining us, let me
know soon-we are planning for a packed house!

We are building from scratch, so this will mean a lot of growing
pains and a lot of work in the next few months. In the initial stages,
we are partnering with Palabras de Poder, the church and
bible school, located in Fuengirola and here in Mijas, respectively.
They have been a huge help to us, driving us around town, helping us
with translating, and making our transition a smooth one. We are
sharing their bible school, at a place called "Villa Los Grillos"-where
we will not only hold our classes, but build community too. A place
where students can hang out, study, and enjoy the presence of God in a
beautiful environment. The location is excellent-because of the
brilliant weather, people have flocked here from all over Europe and
Africa-it is an international crossroads where we will have access to
many different cultures and networks. We are situated in the south of
Spain on the Costa del Sol.

The family in Spain!

We are excited! We know that God has big things in store for our
family, and the vision for the school is taking form here: in less than
a year, we will be placing students into their own callings, as
pastors, church planters, ministry leaders and business leaders! And
along with giving them a deeper knowledge of the spiritual battle, we
will be giving them the keys to becoming a glorious church.

And all armies need a "logistics tail"-a supply line that runs all
the way back to home. And we thank you for being our supply line. We
are living and working in Spain only through your generous gifts and
support-and unfortunately we are still short for our living expenses.
If you can, we need your help for monthly support-for things like
health insurance, public transportation (we can't afford a car), and
the monthly groceries. We are using personal savings in these first few
months, but we are believing God's promises that our full support will
come in by June! If you can support us, please go to the link on the left called "Support Me!"

If you'd like to invest in the Leadership Academy, there are many opportunities to give. The school must purchase:

A used 7-passenger van (7000 euro-about $10,000)

An upgraded kitchen in the villa-one that will be able to support 20 students or more! (2,000 Euro/$3,000)

Office equipment (200 Euro/$300)

Furniture and household items (beds, a sofa, rugs, etc - about 1000 Euro/$1500)

Again, thank you! We'll be sure to send you updates as the months go
by. This is an amazing adventure we've started on, and we are glad
you've decided to share it with us.

Gracias,
Dios Te Bendiga,

DAVE

Primera dia en la escuela espana (First day in Spanish School!)

If you know us, this was a big day in the Hearn household. Rebecca
had homeschooled the girls in Colorado Springs and Phoenix, but we
wanted to do things a little differently here. We wanted to get
integrated into the community here, plus Rebecca had reached her
maximum capacity juggling Ben and teaching a 5 and a 7 year old. So we
enrolled the girls in school in our small village. Here's the photos
we took that chronicled the big event:

Step 1: The night before, take a nice bath. Then quickly jump into bed, there's no heating here!

Brrr... or is it some new Hannah Montana dance?

Step 2: Dress up really nice. Since this is Europe, be sure to use as many colors as possible.

Happy now... but how long will it last?

Step 3: Eat a good breakfast

That is Zumo de Naranja (OJ), Frosted Flakes, an egg, and some toast. Yummmm...

Step 4: *CENSORED* due to much crying, screaming, and clinging.

Step 5: Parents (make that Dad-Mommy would be a mess herself!)
slowly back out the door when children are distracted and then make a
rapid getaway.

Hey, Spanish school is only from 9 to 2 anyway. It's
like a half-day, right?

Step 6: Meet the kiddos, happy and smiling, at the end of the day.

As long as there is ice cream waiting at the end of the day...

Step 7: Take kids to get some helado, and swap stories about bossy teachers, funny boys, new best friends, and underwear.

Happily ever after...

One week in.....

So we have now been here just over a week, we are registered ( the kids and I,dave will takelonger as he is not an EU citizen), we are waiting to hear about an apartment and we have the paperwork for the girls school.

So it has been such a productive time so far.

We are learning to adapt to so many changes:

The cold! We ignorantly thought that it would be warm so we left the kids coats in America. It is so cold here, and the houses don't have heating,so you can see your breath as you eat your dinner with your scarf and ninelayersof clothing on.

The pipes are too small,so you cannot flush your toilet roll down the toilet! This has been a huge thing, especially for the girls to remember. I have to say,I dread going to the loo,it just grosses me out so much, but we will adapt......

There are no tumble dryers here,so after you wash your clothes in the washer ( which holds about 1/4the amount of an American one) which takes2 hours per load, you hang it on lines and wait about 4 days for it to dry. Seriously, we came dangerously close to no clean underwear. I have now found a system that will work...little and often.

BUT, it is good for us,andit makes us appreciate all the little things.....hot cups of tea andfresh bread. Life is good!!!

I also went to the grocery store and ordered 'eyes' instead of garlic, ojos instead of ajos:o)

but the store keepersare very graceful andhelp me out. Aslong asI keep trying, they keep teaching me. I carry a smallnotebook around to write down new words and sentences, so in just a week,I have learnt so muchmore than I anticipated.

So hopefully, this week wecan finalise an apartment, and get the girls in their classes.

we will also start getting the school ready for students, which means a terribly arduous task ofgoing to IKEA for bedding etc.(it is hard actually,asI will be gazing longingly at stuff that I would love to put inmy apartment!!) The school has no moneyfor these things yet,so if you feel like it, you can buy some.....I will make a "donated by...." sticker for above the bed s:o)

I will keep you updated, and let you know all my faux pars....I'm sure there will be plenty.

Bec

First let mejust say that Ihadsesame street on my computer for Ben and he got excited and rippedup my space bar...hence every other wordwillprobably be connected to the next!

Anyway, we are here in Mijas. We arrived last week (thurs) with our8 huge bags, 4 little suitcases, 4 carry-ons, 3 car seats, 1pack-n-play and 1stroller!! Amazingly,it all arrived and no problems with customs and the 12 bottlesof Target brand infant tylenol I had packed!

Thankfully we were met by the localpastor Juanito, with whomwe are going to be working with as far as using someof hisfacilities for the training academy. He was brilliant and brought Daniel and his car so we could all get here.

We set straight in to get our national I.D numbers, without which you can't get a cell phone, bank account, car.....pretty much anything except a cafe conleche and a nice Spanish loaf of crusty bread. Which, since we are a carbo-loving family, we are just fine;o)

We have been looking for an apartment, and it is fun to see it all through the kids eyes. Gone are the big spacious American homes, with drive ways and toilets everywhere. Emma is now concernedher bed might not fit in any ofthe rooms :o) But they are really doing welland loving the experienceof looking.

Once we get our numbers, we will get the girls in thelocal school. They need it,and since I have always homeschooled them, it will be a huge change for them, but we are expecting a little miracle and God placing just the right friendin each one's class.

Dave is working had on getting the Academy ready, and getting all the courses( which are really cool, check them out....... www.g42global.org/leadershipacademy/courses.html )

It is a whole newexperience, but an exciting one. It is going to be a fantastic place to be, surroundedby the costa-del-sol, glorious mountains and most "cool-ly" totally soldout people, living life to the full making a mark in the world and leaving a legacy. I can't wait to get an apartment and for the students to get here so we can hang out, have fun, affect our town, eat, drink and be merry and invite the neighbours to hang with us.

I'llblog more as we do more, but right now, it's just practical boring things, but soon we'llget the good stuff...............................

Hope you understoodall the writing, if I wereto spend the time to go back and add all the spaces, Ben would be awakeand I would never blog anything!!

God Comes Through Every Time

"What in the world are we doing?!" ... actually ran through my head
somewhere over the North Atlantic. It has been such a whirlwind, that I
sometimes sit and think... why exactly did I uproot my family and go
halfway around the world? But of course, God has always worked it out
for us, lit our path up like a runway strip, and helped us out along
the way.

We've already had our share of obstacles and
stress, and as an old missionary couple told us today, "Life hasn't
been easy but it's been great!"And the same is already true for us.We
made it through Ben's broken leg-he had a brace on through Christmas
and New Year, and got it off the day before we were scheduled to leave
Phoenix; the doctor's words were, "Ben's leg looks great, take it off!"And take it off we did, with huge smiles on our faces.

God has come through every time.

We've been waiting since August for some money
that the Air Force owes us, and we got notice in the mail the same day
as Ben's brace came off that they would pay it-another gift from God
and now the United States Air Force can help support the Kingdom of God!

God has come through every time.

We flew from Newark to London Heathrow to Malaga Spain last Wednesday. On one flight, the flight attendants moved two passengers to other seats so that our family could have more room!It seemed like we moved an entire household on our backs-we checked 10 bags and carried on 5 more! But everywhere we turned we had helpful security agents and fellow travelers, and kindness. And we even landed in Malaga to the kind faces of Juanito Jonsson and Daniel, our new partners in Mijas, Spain.

God has come through every time.

And we know he will continue to come through-we've
met some amazing people here already-those who were complete strangers
on Tuesday, are now strong friends: Andrew, who has been our tour
guide, translator, teacher, and friend-Thank You!Carol y Andres, two Brasileros who we can hang out with and have great hearts and want to serve Christ, and who have a bright future together-Thank You!And it's only been tres dias!

God has come through every time.

And we thank God for you-those who are praying for
us, who have already helped us on our journey, and who are financially
supporting our family and the G42 Leadership Academy. We are still short on our monthly support-about $800 short. And that doesn't count Ben's medical bills-pray they will be all covered by state agencies. If you aren't already, please think about supporting us monthly.I
will send another update soon to give you more details on the training
center we are starting, but you can check it out now at www.g42leadershipacademy.org .

...and from Bec:

The girls are very happy and as Gabriella said "Spain Rocks!"They have made friends with a boy from Angola and are picking up Spanish words all the time.Once we find our apartment and get a little stability I will register them for Spanish school.

We are busy looking for an apartment in the little old Spanish village of Mijas Pueblo.

I was trying to ask a lady on the street the
directions to the grocery store in my broken Spanish, and she said "Oh
I speak English," she was English and immediately took the kids and I
into her house to see if would like to rent one across the street from
her.She has invited us back for Ben to play with her 2-year old.She is a Christian and it was just another little gift from God to make this move that little bit easier. We all prayed back in America for friends, so we wait to see who else God has lined up, especially for the girls.

It is so very different from the life in America, but it is going to be a great experience. It will be brilliant when we get the first students here and start full steam ahead. It may be starting small, but this is going explode and affect the entire world.....of this I have no doubt!

But until next time.....hasta luego.....

Bec

Bones, Garage Doors, U-Hauls & Mountain Passes

Wow, what a week...

It started with Ben breaking his leg... he slipped on water in the
kitchen and somehow broke his femur. So just as he was getting
independent toddling around the house (and giving Rebecca a break), he
now has a brace that will keep him in a sitting position for the next
3-4 weeks. But thank God his leg will heal on its own and he will be
good as new in no time. But it means he will need to be rolled or
carried everywhere, he can't get around on his own... so Bec is on
full-time Ben duty again.

And then I picked up the U-Haul trailer to get the rest of our stuff
to Colorado Springs... and left early Thursday morning. I made it about
2 hours away until the snow and ice (in Arizona!?!) closed the mountain
road I had to get over. I spent about a half an hour stuck in the
middle of the road, not being able to move, until space was cleared so
I could turn around and go back from where I started. I then had to
drive 4 hours out of my way to find a 'southern route' that didn't go
over 8000 feet elevation. So that made for a fun, long trip, pulling a
trailer with my (underpowered) minivan.

I forgot to mention that while I was packing the U-Haul, I managed to get the garage door off of its rails. Good times.

I mention all of this because I could have used these things to
delay our start to Spain... to say that these are signs that we need to
stop and reassess what we're doing, to wait until we think everything
is 'settled'. I'm not trying to be super-spiritual here, but I think
these little things are just the enemy trying to make us fear, trying
to make us second-guess what we're called to do. For me, it's made me
more resolute. It's also made me focus on the doors that have been
opening for us: residency requirements will be simple, our shipping
process is going smoothly, we are steadily building financial support
(but not quite complete :^) and all of the things we need to get done,
are getting done.

But also, we can't do this without your prayers. Please pray for a
speedy recovery for Ben, for peace and comfort while he is in the
brace, for strength for Rebecca, and for continued favor in everything
we do.

2008 Christmas Newletter

Wow! What a year. From November 07 to August 08, Bec (me) and the
kids were in Arizona with my parents while Dave was on his second tour
in Iraq with the U.S Army. I know that he missed us and especially
those first few months of Ben's life, but he did some amazing things
and got to be a warrior rather than a paper pusher. He can't tell us
what he really did in Iraq until it gets de-classified in 25 years, but
suffice to say; he was awarded a second Bronze Star.
Dave came to us in Arizona in August and was officially out of the
military in October. He has started a web design company
(www.warriorshepherd.com/design), and works as a substitute teacher in
the local schools, until we move in the New Year.

Gabriella, Ben, and Emma (L to R)

Emma and Gabriella are still my girls. We still home school,
although that will be ending soon with our new endeavour. Emma joined
Brownies and has decided to be a famous dancer, singer, actress, and
preacher! She still writes all the time and organizes classes,
carnivals, and parties. She devours books and recently figured out
inter-library loans. She regularly orders 4-5 books a week :0)
Gabriella has taken to reading too in the past few months, she likes to
read Spongebob (go figure) and Bearenstein Bears. Mostly she is into
helping with Ben, and loves cooking. She loves getting on all my
jewellery and big diamante clip-on earrings...she has her own sense of
style and never likes what I pick out for her! Just like me though, the
more colours you can get on the better!
Ben is a joy, but stinkin' hard work. He learned to walk very early but
failed to learn how to fall. He uses his head to break the fall, and
constantly has bruises across his forehead. He loves to dance, as soon
as music comes on, his knees start bending, hands go in the air and
bobs his head. He likes to be outside to watch all the quail families
and point at every airplane that flies over. But he cannot stand trash
trucks, they freak him out!
Me, I did some sign painting this year (www.bobsdoodlesandbugs.com),
and when I wasn't ninja-catching a baby, braiding hair or packing, I
have just been looking forward to our new big move...... January 10, we
leave Arizona for Spain to go and establish and work in the G42
Leadership Academy (www.g42leadershipacademy.org). The first students
should start arriving in March, with new semesters each three months.
So it's going to be thrilling and stressful and everything in between.
The girls will be going to Spanish school (PRAY for them!!), this will
help them integrate, make friends, and learn the language. This will be
a massive deal for them, so I am truly hoping for a miracle. Emma is
looking forward to finally having her own room as Gabriella wants to
room with Ben....Next year's letter will tell of the trouble those two
get into together!!
But we are planning on getting a sofa bed in our apartment, so guests
will always be welcome ( Brits bring PG Tips, and Americans bring
peanut butter!) Mi casa es su casa.
Have a lovely Christmas,
The Hearn Family

Maybe You Can Go Back Again...

I am sitting on a Philadelphia - DFW flight writing this blog today, returning from a business & pleasure trip back home to Southern New Jersey, or "South Jersey". I had an opportunity to share my testimony, calling, and vision at the church I grew up in, Hammonton First Assembly of God, and spend some time with family and friends. It was a great trip, and one I hope will be fruitful, in terms of prayer and financial support for our vision at Leadership Academy in Spain. It was the first time I have been the main speaker for a church service, and I have to say that even I was amazed by how well I did. I can definitely say it was only through God! I believe the service was taped and I will post it as soon as I get it.

My message was one of "entering the battle"-shocker ;^)-and was a challenge to enter God's service in building the Kingdom through discipling the next generation and ministering to widows and orphans.

But it was great re-connecting with some old school friends and my brother Jason and his family again. Christmas is a great time to be in the Northeast and a nice change from Phoenix, where I have to admit, it's a little hard to get into the Christmas season. But South Jersey had cold weather, even a little snow, and just the right Christmas Carols on the radio to bring back memories of childhood Christmases. I looked through some old photos and even scanned some... hopefully I'll be able to scan in a lot more of my parent's old photos and get them online for "posterity." For any family members reading this, send me your photos and I will start a photo gallery site soon...

One photo really brought me back, I can still hear those 8-tracks in my head, and especially the Andy Williams and Carpenters Christmas albums... whenever I hear those songs on the radio I am transported back to those Christmases of the 70's and 80's... I just hope I can make those same good memories for my own kids as they grow up. Rebecca and I are really trying to establish some traditions with our kids like I had as a child.
Overall, it was a fast, but brilliant trip.

Now it's back to work, packing for Spain and working the logistics for the Leadership Academy. I'm meeting with Andrew Shearman and David Fredrikcz this week to get more definite plans down on paper. Keep checking in here and the G42 Leadership Academy site for updates!

G42 Leadership Academy Update!

Well, it's finally coming together. The first term of the "G42 Leadership Academy" starts on March 1st, 2009. Everything is lining up, from location and teachers, to curriculum. You can check out the website by clicking on the image below or here. Here is the introduction to the school:

We are pleased to announce the first term of the G42 Leadership Academy! This is a culmination of years of dreaming and planning how to best equip men and women to plant the Kingdom of God around the world.

We are committed to see a generation come alive, to rise up to receive their full inheritance in Christ. This means to be like Christ in character, servanthood, self-sacrifice, & commitment. It also means to live passionately & full of joy, with a deep attitude of thankfulness, worship, & grace-with great hope for the future! To live fully alive & die happy!

Here at G42, and our partner organization Adventures in Missions, we have a dream to raise an army of 100,000 to plant the Kingdom of God across the globe. We want to see a glorious church arise and bring dominion to the empty and desparate places on earth. That is why the leadership academy is not simply a leadership school or ministerial training center, it is also a jumping off point for people who have committed to giving their lives for Christ.

Iraq War Journal Entry

This came out of my journal that I randomly wrote in during my travels in and around Iraq. I'll try to post more as I remember...this is a short one.

16 April - 0131 hours

I fly on an Osprey tomorrow--another first. This may sound weird, but I was just walking to the WC [bathroom] and was struck by God's glory. In the middle of what would seem to be a "God-forsaken" land--He Is Still Here. "The Glory of God Fills the Temple" I pray that I won't forget this--I won't forget what I've done [here], or what I've seen.

A little back story: There were two things that contributed to making the skies over Iraq gorgeous: one, the dust perpetually in the atmosphere made for some of the most amazing sunsets I've ever seen, and two, the lack of lights at night meant that the starry sky was breathtaking. Also, the Osprey.

This is a Christian "Leader" ?!?

I recently received an email forwarded to me from a friend. This
email was written in response to the election results (P.S. if you've
been in a cave for the past week, Obama won) and was from Dutch
Sheets, who is a big deal in prophetic and apostolic circles these
days. The entire email can be easily found if you Google "Dutch Sheets
election response." I have to admit, this email got me pretty
incensed, which is hard to do... but let me point out a couple of
things that I felt I needed to reassure those who have read his
response and those that think that we are in big trouble because of the
U.S. election results:

1. A quote: "Was what happened Tuesday God's will? I am quite confident it was not. "
WHAT?!? This was the eighth and ninth sentences in the email, so I'm
thinking they were an important point of his statement. --Let me
assure you, God is STILL in control here, folks. Dutch thinks he can
diminish God because he is depressed that his big prophetic statements
didn't come to pass... Let me remind Dutch and all of us: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Romans 13.1

2. Another short quote and paraphrase: "God's patience and mercy ...
will change to a degree and judgment will now increase" for those who
supported Obama, and therefor, for all of America. "What Can We
Expect? [a list of judgments is included in his email!] - Death and Disease (satan... will have greater inroads to this nation) [?!?], - Terrorism, -War (perhaps on our own soil) [and the list goes on...]
Because Dutch believes things did not go God's way, God is mad, and now
God will hurt and destroy those He is angry with for not backing
Dutch's candidate. Let me assure you, that God is worried less about
the President of the United States than about the lost, the poor, the
orphan, and the widow.

3. A quote: "Like many, believing I had many promises and
confirmations that God would 'grace' us with a pro-life president in
this election, I failed to consider strongly enough that all
promises-even scripture-are conditional 99.9% of the time." I'd
like to see your scripture references that say that God's promises are
conditional 99.9% of the time. Because they're not in my Bible.
"Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus." 2
Corinthians 1:20 (TM)

4. Finally, this entire email is predicated on the supposition that
the 2008 U.S. presidential election was the culmination of all
history. Again, God is bigger than presidents, He's bigger than
elections, and He's bigger than the United States. (gasp!) God does not cease to work or to bless or to give grace because of the actions of a nation of this world.

All I know is that God IS in control, and he is coming back for a
glorious church. And I intend to help clean up the church so that when
He returns, he won't be returning to crumbling facades but instead for
radicals who are willing to lay down their lives. Dutch (as those in
his "stream") will watch by the sidelines so they can say "I told you
so" at various intervals. But in the end, they're going to watch from
the bleachers while the glorious church, the bride, gets its
inheritance.

What will an Obama presidency mean for America? That's a subject for a later blog...

(oh, and Happy Veterans Day...)
The Matrix Bars

This blog below was written by Kim Daniels, who is currently on the World Race.
She's a gifted writer-much better than me-and has had an amazing
journey this past year. This is the kind of people that we need on the
battlefield with us-bold, full of the Spirit, and just real. Her blog
is full of stories like this.

Kind of like something shifted in me the night we got held at gunpoint in Johannesburg, South Africa, something shifted in me the night I found myself on the rooftop in Phnom Phen, Cambodia yelling freedom over the city with my brother Matt.
Most of our squad is in Cambodia working in the slums, but 8 of us are
back in Bangkok, Thailand for the next 7 days... back in the bars.

The World Race ends for me on November
21st. Just when I thought I was near done... nope! We're going to pump it
up a notch at the end of this thing here. No fizzling out. The word
autopilot' means nothing.
Its hard to describe what it was
like being back in the Nana Entertainment district again, except to say
that I knew I need to be there. Not just last night. Not just tonight
and tomorrow night. But in the future. As I sat sipping my water, God
told me, "Kim, you belong in the strip bars."

He made me smirk at that one. I like it: I work for Jesus in the strip bars.

We went back to Nana for the first time since GATO
left Thailand 2 months ago. I'd felt intense all day, and it culminated
especially as I stepped out of the taxi and laid eyes once more on the
chaos of the downtown scene. The lights. The pounding music. The men.
The women. The beer. The smell...

Once I get into intense mode, it takes the
jaws of life to pry me out. I wanted to just get in there. I walked
fast, fiercely praying through the downtown streets, blessing little
kids and speaking limbs into cripples. I tend to feel the physical
weight of spiritual atmospheres; it manifests itself in extreme aches
in my body, headaches, nausea, stomach issues, etc etc. Over the last
couple of months I've recognized it as hell's pathetic ploy to keep me
at home. So whatever. I say no to hell. "Hell, no."

Caroline, Andi, Matt S, Mark, Gretchen, Patrice and I split into
smaller groups and headed into the 3 story entertainment center, which
read "Nana Entertainme". The nt' had burnt out. Caroline, Andi and I
went into a bar on the 2nd floor that was hidden behind a green curtain.

As we sat inside, drinking our waters, a
random man named Lonny (that's what we'll call him) came in and sat
down. After about 3 minutes of trying to hit on me, he realized that
getting hit on was not what I was in this bar for and started to ask
some different questions and listen to mine. We talked for about an
hour.
His was a classic story: He'd
come with his two friends from Australia to Thailand to do what the
Thai people do' after his 3 year relationship with his girlfriend had
ended. Basically, he was here because he was angry, felt rejected, and
was in the mood to dehumanize others and make them feel worthless
because he felt dehumanized and worthless himself. Behind me were Andi
and Caroline, praying. Behind him were his two buddies, making out with
the almost naked women.

He asked why I was in Bangkok. I said, "Those girls up there",
motioning with my head and turning my eyes to the girls on the poles.
He followed my gaze and looked back at me. "Those girls are somebody's
sister. Somebody's mom. Somebody's daughter. No matter how they ended
up here, none of them are too far gone. Basically, I want then to know
that they CAN get out. And if they won't yet, I at least want to tell
them that their intrinsic value has nothing to do with their outward
beauty or how much men will pay to sleep with them. Most of these women
have never ever heard that in their life."
He played along with that for a while, saying things to make me think
he agreed. I saw that he hadn't let it hit him yet, so we kept talking.
I asked him, "So, Lonny, can I ask you a question?" With his yes, I
said, "If you really think all those things about the girls- how sad it
is that they are doing this, and how you don't think it's right- then
what are you doing here?"

He looked down at his beer bottle, smiled and nodded his head as if
to say, "You caught me." He said, "I'm here with my buddies. They know
I don't agree, but I didn't want to be alone, so I came. And I have a
pretty screwed up life, ya know Kim. Probably nothing like your's. I've
been really depressed and almost killed myself a few times. I've lost
the love of my life and lots of my close friends and family have died.
I've had near death experiences, and have been on and off of all kinds
of drugs for years. I bet you don't know very much about that."
I
smiled. "Actually, Lonny, I know about all that. Our circumstances are
different and I won't ever assume to know exactly what your life has
been like. But I do understand depression. I was in it deep and heavy
for years, and I understand the suicidal thoughts that go along with
it. I get death- my dad died suddenly of a heart attack and I've had
quite a few friends die in the war and in freak accidents. I get
loosing the "love of your life", and how excruciating that can be. I've
been held at gunpoint; that's a near death experience if I ever heard
one. And the drugs, well, I've never done pot or coke or smoked, but I
was on anti-depressants for so long that it began to alter my
personality. There are whole chunks of my life that I don't remember
because of those doctor prescribed drugs. But your illegal drugs and my
legal ones both have the same origin: using human re-doubled efforts to
feel better, or to numb pain. Neither one of those ever works."
His eyes were glued on me. He said, "What are you really doing here?"

I told him about my Hero, who
said that you have to loose your life in order to find it. And so I
left everything behind, gave Him my life, keep giving Him more of it,
and apparently it's led me all around the world.*
He told me about his Catholic background, and how it just never really
worked for him and he couldn't figure out why. I asked him if he ever
felt boxed in, like there were a bunch rigid standards that he could
just never live up to, a list of do's and don'ts that he was supposed
to keep and always found himself missing the mark. He said yes, and so
his response to it all was "Forget it. I can't measure up anyways" and
concluded that he was just a bad person and that God was really angry
at him.
The law had brought him death.

He told me that he hated
religion. And I told him that I hate religion, too. His eyebrows
raised... "Wait, I thought you are a Christian..."
"I am," I answered. "But I'm not about religion. Religion sucks the
life out of me and makes me want to whither and die. I'm not about a
system that tells me how to live a nice life. I'm about the God who
raises the dead and still makes all things new, who is also the same
God that doesn't judge me on my performance or love me with condition."

That's when he broke. I watched his eyes change. They softened and
then deepened, and he looked really vulnerable all of a sudden, like
someone had just exposed his child-like innocence from a facade of
pseudo-man pretending to be tough and calloused.
"What do you see when you step inside of Nana, Kim?"
"I see the Matrix. We're in the Matrix. Have you seen that movie?" He nodded. "Everything we see right now is not the real
world. I can touch this wall, and I'm sitting on this stool, but these
tangibles are not the reality of what is really going on in this bar.
I've taken the red pill, and now I'm so deep into the truth of reality
that I can never go back. What I see going on here is a battle for
these girls' souls, and for the men's souls, too. There are lies here,
accusations, greed, depression, hopelessness, lust, all things
manufactured by hell. But there is also Light, and Life, perfection and
beauty, restoration, hope, truth, and freedom. What I see when I step
inside of Nana is it drying up. I see it not existing. I see the whole
strip-bar scene going back to hell where it came from and Nana becoming
a place that reflects the Kingdom of God, on earth as it is in heaven."
His eyes kept softening. "...I want what you have. If I could have whatever this is, I'd scoop it up with both hands so quick..."

"Hey, good news then. Its for you..." I said. "Jesus is especially fond of you..."**

I saw that facade begin to whither, but then something like a black
sheet dropped over head. He stood up all of a sudden and got really
flustered. I was surprised at how abrupt it was... He said, "Okay, um, I
don't know what this is", motioning to his chest and stomach area, "I
don't know whats going on, but its really unfamiliar, and... I just need
to go. I'm just going to go."
I saw the discomfort in him... I saw that he'd been stirred and it freaked him out. But I smiled, thinking Oh,
boy, God met you in the bar tonight. You came for sex and left
recognizing your hunger for Someone else... You're much closer than you
think... "Okay" I said. "Wherever you go, look for truth. Real truth, Lonny. And don't settle until you find It."

I watched him walk away quickly, his head down, oblivious to the
girls all around him. I knew that God had gotten a little too close for
his comfort zone.

That's part of my
dream for Thailand. It's not just for the bar girls, it's for the men
here, too. That they would travel halfway around the world thinking
that they'll dive deep into pleasure and ignore the pain that drives
them here... but instead of meeting girls for sex in the bars, they meet
God instead. Because God's Kingdom invaded the bars incognito, and they
didn't even see it coming. And in the very place that they thought
they'd play Jonah to keep running from Him, they crash into Him.

*Quote from Matt Snyder's mind

**"The Shack". A must read.

World Race Training and Initiation, part 2

...continuing yesterday's blog on the World Race training for the men about to go on an 11-month mission trip...

After
the guys had done their symbolic "sanctification," we set off on a hike
up and down (mostly up) in the North Georgia mountains. While we were
cruising along, the guys got to know each other a little, and got to
stretch their legs a little. Especially after Ben Messner, another
World Race leader and trainer, asked to pick up the pace. That was
just opening I was looking for. We started off on a run down the
trail, over roots, rocks, and under those low-hanging branches-"Low
Branch!"

After the guys were sufficiently winded, we stopped to rest and
recover. I let some of the guys give their testimonies before we
talked about the next step in our initiation: Covenant and
brotherhood. We talked about David's mighty men, the 3 and the 30, and
how they were committed to David-and ready to die for each other.
These men are the type who would bless their leader with a cold glass
of water, no matter what personal danger they had to go through
themselves. We talked about becoming a "Band of Brothers," and I asked
the men to make a covenant statement-a statement that speaks about
their commitment to each other, their commitment to God, and their
commitment to their mission.

Tomorrow: The Trek Continues...
World Race Training and Initiation, part 1

I just got back from a week in Gainesville, Georgia--the headquarters of AIM and the location of the latest World Race training. I had an amazing time being ministered to and ministering to the members of the AIM family. I also got to hang out with some great men of God--Seth Barnes, Michael Hindes, Michael Paschall, and others. While there, we planned and dreamed for G42 and the training center. But the best part was getting to know, train, and mentor the World Racers who will be setting off in January '09. I took the men of this Race--14 of them--on an intense hike through the North Georgia mountains, learning about covenant, brotherhood, and entering the spiritual battle...

The first thing we did was consecrate ourselves for battle. Just like Israel's warriors in biblical times, the men sanctified themselves for the upcoming battle. Symbolically, they washed their hands and feet in the cold waters of Anna Ruby Falls. But they also prayed with one another, asking for strength in the spiritual battle they were about to enter.

Isaiah 13:3--I, the Lord, have dedicated these soldiers for this task. Yes, I have called mighty warriors to express my anger, and they will rejoice when I am exalted."

I was impressed by this group of World Racers... they quickly came together as a team, and they seem committed to the vision of planting the Kingdom of God around the world. Here are just a couple of blogs you can check out: Cameron Caviness and Miles Tiegs.

More tomorrow...

The G42 Leadership Academy

The leaders of G42 have stepped forward with solid plans for Spain, and we've identified a location where we can begin our center. We're going to start in March '09, and between now and then I will be building the logistics and daily administration from the ground up. That covers everything like application packets, arranging transportation & schedules, paying the bills, and building coursework on leadership, character, and servanthood-it's a great opportunity! The teachers for the classes are some amazing men: Andrew Shearman, David Fredriksz, Michael Hindes, and Ted Hanson, just to name a few. Many people have already expressed interest for the classes that begin in March, and let me just give you a sneak-peek at our curriculum topics:

Discerning Life Calling

Covenant & Community

Management & Leadership

Kingdom

Increased Intimacy in Prayer, Meditation, and Worship

Church Planting

Team Building & Adventure

Oral & Written Communications

Grace

Prophetic Activation

Practicum

(If these topics have peaked your interest, drop me a line and I will put you on the mailing list.
George Muller

I am reading "Hero Tales" to the girls in school, and the past couple of days we have read about George Muller.

Basically a spoilt German kid, who drank and gambled and ended up in jail. Got saved in a prayer meeting and moved to England to set up an orphanage. While doing this he felt as though he shouldn't ask anyone for anything, and so he did it all by faith. He set up five orphanages in Bristol, and by the time he died he had housed, educated, and TRAINED over ten thousand boys and girls!!

Today we read about an instance with a little girl "Amy Carmichael", who was not an orphan, but a daughter of George's friend. George took her into the breakfast hall where the orphans were standing behind their chairs, the table set with the plates and cups. George, knowing there was no food in the place said to Amy, "Come and see what our father in heaven will do for us today".

So he prayed for the breakfast, and there was a knock at the door and there was the town baker who said that God woke him up at 2.00 am with a feeling that George had no food, so he got up and baked fresh bread for the kids... (note: he didn't send yesterday's hard, bad bread, he got up and baked fresh, best bread!)... so the kids had bread and sat down to eat and there was another knock at the door... it was the milkman, who's cart was broken and he had to unload it to fix it, and could the children use his cans of fresh milk???

So I am thinking two things today...one: Dear God diminish my doubt so my faith can overcome, I want to live my life like that. And two: it was men who God used to provide for the kids. Yes, God is able to let manna fall from heaven, but really he uses men (and ladies). I want to be the one who can show up on someone's door and be their answer. I want people to show up at my door and be my answer. I want to be listening to HIS voice and not let another opportunity pass where I have let someone down, or now someone else gets to be a blessing. Oh that we would all walk in FAITH and make a difference.

The Spirit of Nehemiah

Sorry I haven't kept this blog updated. I am continuing to blog on WarriorShepherd.com and my intent was to duplicate the blogs on here too. Obviously I haven't kept up. I'll do better in the future.//Dave

The Spirit of Nehemiah

I was recently reminded of Nehemiah's story ... here he is, a cupbearer to King Artaxerxes. A servant who was tasked to choose wines for the king and to taste them-first, to see if they were "fit for a king", and secondly, to make sure they weren't poisoned. (The Kings of Persia had just a few enemies in those days) The Jews were returning to Israel from captivity, and Nehemiah's brother had returned to Persia with some bad news: the walls of Jerusalem were obliterated, the gates burnt, and Jerusalem was a "disgrace"-walls in that period were not just for protection, but a status symbol as well. Nehemiah was destroyed-he mourned for the loss of his nation's seat of power. He prayed night and day for forgiveness and favor.

Artaxerxes noticed his distress and asked him, "What can I do to help?" Nehemiah, the ol' lowly cup-bearer, didn't ask for a day off, or maybe a nice vacation to the hills. He asked for a leave of absence to go rebuild Jerusalem's wall, free passage papers throughout the kingdom, and permission to get the best timber's from the king's forests. Pah!

And Artaxerxes said yes.

And not only that, he gave him a contingent of soldiers and horsemen to accompany him!

So again, the wine-taster returns to Jerusalem, and takes on the task of rebuilding the wall. Despite opposition, he rallies the citizens of Jerusalem, and through generous gifts of money, supplies, and manpower, the walls are rebuilt in a miraculous 52 days. (Which would be practically impossible to match even today!)

Okay, so why am I talking about Nehemiah? I have to say I feel a little like him-setting off, knowing that "if you want a job done, you must do it yourself." Feeling despair, not because of a broken wall, but of a broken generation-a generation of youth that are lost, that know there is more but can't quite get there. They have a million excuses, but can't commit. And they have no idea what real church is, what real friendship is, and what real victory is. And then acting out in boldness, with nothing more than a prayer for favor, and building the kingdom from the ground up. That's my job in developing the training center in a nutshell-building from the ground up.

Next blog, I'll give you an update-let's just say things are beginning to pick up steam!
